Pinterest! It’s on every blogger’s tongue with claims of blog shattering traffic, but why and how are some bloggers so successful at gaining Pinterest followers and some can’t get a handle on their Pinterest Marketing techniques? Are there magic Pinterest marketing tips and secrets you don’t know of? I’ll tell you! Even if you don’t use Tailwind, these tricks will boost your stats.
“90% Of my traffic is driven by Pinterest Marketing!”
But how you ask? It has to do with your content and how active your followers are. I had 19 followers less than a year ago. I wanted aggressive growth and with the tricks I’m going to share, I gained over 1,000 followers in less than 6 months.
Chances are you either love Pinterest marketing or you’re frustrated and confused by it. I’ll teach you how to make quick changes to your profile and many other secrets to gain Pinterest traction. This is the ultimate guide on how to gain Pinterest followers. Let’s get to it!
These 11 Tips Will Get You More Pinterest Followers Fast!
No gimmicks; get ready for some easy tips that will immediately influence and affect your account, plus I’ll share some Pinterest facts most people won’t tell you.
1. Pin Other People’s Pins To Up Your Pinterest Marketing Game
I hear it all the time “No one pins MY pins, I get nothing linked from Pinterest to my Website! There’s no traffic! What am I missing?” Have you been there? If you told me that was your current experience, the first thing I would do is check what you share. If all you share is your own content you are doing Pinterest WRONG!
Other site’s pins are more popular and fetch more repins because they have built a reputation as being trustworthy sources of information. That means they get more viewability. Your pins might not be in that category yet, but they can be.
Counter this time by sharing quality pins with high repin numbers while you build your own reputation. As a general rule of thumb, I share 1 pin from my site for every 6-8 pins found from other sources.
You will gain followers for your boards because you share quality information from all over the web, your site’s pins will fit in nicely with that trusted information.
Think about it, a lot of Pinterest followers and users don’t even have a website, they never share their own content. Why do they have 1000’s of followers? Clearly it’s not because of anything they’ve written, it’s because of what they’ve shared and repinned! Pretty cool right? Pinterest marketing means pinning what people want to see.
2. Check Your Links to Ensure High-Quality Content
Do you really need to check what a pin links to? YES! Don’t be a victim that inadvertently spreads spam! This can equate to you losing a lot of Pinterest followers.
“Maybe I’ll just pin it quickly… no need to check the link… it’s been pinned 1k times. With that many repins it has to be good quality content!” You know you’ve done it, everyone has.
When I did it before I realized what happened, 20 of my beloved Pinterest followers were gone. I clicked back through my links and realized a supposed weight-loss infographic just was pushing weight loss pills, it was total spam.
My followers didn’t like it, and down my numbers fell. It’s especially important to check your links when you are auto-scheduling pins because you could spam 10 different boards.
A simple click-through would have avoided all of this. This is especially important if you are scheduling your links with programs like Tailwind. I don’t know what I would do without scheduling. Check out this post to see how Tailwind can help take your marketing to a new level plus lots of other Pinterest tips.
3. Check What is Being Repinned from your Site
This trick shows you which pins are getting more action than others. If a pin is popular, you can use that pin structure to create future pins.
Enter this is into your search bar: https://www.pinterest.
When I check who has pinned my pins the URL looks like this: https://www.pinterest.
4. Always Repin Your Popular Pins to Gain Pinterest Followers
Now that you know how to search through all the pins that have been pinned from your site, repin the most popular ones. If you pin a fresh pin from your site every day your pin starts at 0.
However, if you check your ‘Source’ page, you can snag the pin that you see people have repinned the most. Pin, pins you see a lot of action on.
Create your own value, because as we discussed some people pin superficially and are looking for pins that will get them the most action back.

5. Automate Your Pinning using the Tailwind App
Pinning takes a lot of time, doesn’t it?
Pinterest is the main source of traffic for most bloggers, and it can not, I repeat can not be ignored!
Sharing 50+ pins a day quickly became a burden for me and I really started to hate Pinterest marketing. Can you relate? I got overwhelmed and needed help, bad.
After lots of research, I started using Tailwind’s Free Trial to schedule my pins. Instantly I had more time to write and focus on earning money with my blog instead of looking at the same pins over and over again.
Pre-scheduled pins felt less burdensome since I could schedule 1 pin to multiple boards at once! This is the ultimate tip to up your Pinterest Marketing, pin consistently. The tailwind app helped me take my marketing to a new level with optimal pinning times to increase viewership. The added relief came just when I needed it!
So how do you auto-schedule pins with the Tailwind app? What does that mean?
It means you can ‘queue’ any pin or picture from online to post to your Pinterest. The Tailwind app created AN AMAZING extension for your browser called, Tailwind Publisher. This allows you to schedule pins immediately from anywhere instantly.
I realize how scary it is to add more to your plate, so please see the images to see how easy it is to auto-schedule.
As you can see above Tailwind and Pinterest have a similar interface for selecting your pins.
The difference is that with the Tailwind app you are able to select multiple pins at a time, and select ‘schedule’ rather than selecting an individual pin and immediately selecting the board. It looks like this:
Select ‘Go Schedule’, and you’re taken to this screen:
Select which board you would like to share to and then select ‘Add to Queue Now’ and it will schedule for the next available time slot. That’s it. Once scheduled, you can see the Pin in your Tailwind app dashboard waiting to be recalled.
Freebie alert! The Tailwind app is offering a free trial via The Rising Damsel. It’s an awesome $15 value and every freebie to grow your traffic helps! Take advantage.
Scheduling 20 pins a day for 5 days will give you a good idea of what scheduled pinning can really do for your follower count. I recommend to continue normal use of Pinterest, but add your extra free auto-scheduled pins via Tailwind. Your influx of added followers will amaze you! If you decide to sign up with Tailwind you can schedule as many pins as a day as you want. It’s 100% unlimited.
Want even more benefits? Tailwind offers “Tailwind Tribes” to explode your growth even faster. Tribes are similar to Pinterest group boards and will give you immediate visibility to an entire network of people that you can share with.
Tailwind will even send you their secrets and marketing tips to help you grow your blog and social media accounts. Every time I implement any of their tips I immediately see a spike in traffic. The secrets are really valuable!
I can help connect you with Tailwind Tribes, but start with joining my brand new one here: Promote Your Blog-The Rising Damsel. I’m on Tailwind tribes all the time, feel free to message me with any of your questions, conveniently from Tailwind chat!
6. Pin the Correct URL from YOUR Site
If you are haphazard with your pins, I guarantee you have mistakenly pinned your main URL instead of the actual post you intended to share. Take your time, a misdirected pin will lead someone to believe you are spamming by not actually providing the promised content.

7. Strike Someone’s Fancy!
Get on Group Boards! You knew this was coming, but I’m really going to tell you the ‘why’. If you have 5 followers, then 5 people see your content, and hopefully… share your content.
That’s wonderful, but the internet is about ratios. There is a proportionately smaller chance that your pin will initiate a response the fewer the people see it.
So how do you get more eyes? You Pin to group boards. Pin your content, but also pin content with a high number of repins. If you pin a pin with 1,000 repins someone is more likely to look at it and think “What’s that about?”, and gets them to act.
Action is what we want. Join my group board: Connect and Share Promote Each Other for Success. Just follow me / send me a message to add you. High repin rates are what you want and our board provides that.
8. Utilize Your Descriptions Every Time to Appeal to Your Pinterest Followers
People might not be pinning your content like spreading a wildfire YET, but it WILL happen, especially once you start joining group boards. When your pin does get repinned that pin is seen by that person’s audience. Why not flirt with their audience a little? Entice every eye that sees your pin every time.
Easy Trick! A Pin description is the 2nd most important part of a pin, the first being the visual response. Make sure that all your pins have descriptions EVERY TIME.
The ‘alt description’ will become your pin description once saved to Pinterest. Pinterest functions just like google and you want Pinterest to pull up your pin every chance it gets. Without a description, you are missing out on a chance to connect with your readers and add SEO.
‘How to use Pinterest Marketing to Gain More Followers. Easy Tips that Make a Big Difference! The Rising Damsel #girlboss #blogger #tailwind #tailwindapp #finance #success #wah #monetize #pinterestfollowers #pinterest #socialmediamarketing #bloghelp #bloggertips’
From my example, above you can see that I address the post name, what the post is about, who I am, and hashtags. All of these are crucial information.
Create a similar formula for your descriptions so you can begin to get into the habit of always adding that information. (Hashtags have been said to affect Pinterest analytics, try for yourself, I found them to be quite successful.)
Visual:
I think we can all agree that the pin on the left looks more complete and frankly more valuable. A valuable pin has a better repin chance every time. *Remember the new standard for pins is 900×600 pixels.
9. Fill Your Board With Valuable Content That Interests You, and Will Benefit Your Pinterest Marketing
Duh, keep reading 😉 There’s no reason to wait for your favorite pinner’s content to trickle into your daily feed. Go directly to the source and look at their pins!
There are a few Pinterest followers that I follow back very intently. Their content is spot on and their links ALWAYS work. You follow people because you enjoy what they share, “source” pins from their boards and use it to your advantage.
Hit one board or one person’s account to find great pins. It’s an easy and reliable way to potentially find 30 pins you love. It’s a win-win because you are sharing a ton of a fellow blogger’s content, and you saved a lot of time.
Even if you aren’t using Tailwind, this is a great technique to build relationships, just remember to space your pins out if you aren’t using an auto-scheduler.
Secret Alert! You can use your Tailwind Publisher to help with your Pinterest Marketing. Simply click the extension when you are on a Pinterest board you like.
This is especially helpful when you want to mass schedule pins and not think about sharing every single hour. Once a pin is queued, you can edit the description, edit the time, even add it to more boards or update the URL. Just remember to make sure that the pin links to the correct page.
Tailwind made all the difference in my approach and technique. I couldn’t imagine my social media without it now.
10. Contrary Advice for Pinterest
Use caution when ‘Branding’ your Pinterest Boards. Personally I do not like them. If all I can see is the fancy font on top of a colored background, how do I know that I’ll like what your boards offer? I’m 100% more likely to subscribe to all of your boards if I can at least glance at what content they contain.
Despite what I say about high repin numbers, never ever pin a pin based on the repin number alone. I always check a pin out, make sure that the link works, and that the information is valid and useful to my Pinterest followers.
11. Keep Pinning to Gain Pinterest Followers
I know it gets discouraging. Look at Pinterest as a tool, it’s not meant for immediate gratification, contrary to what many bloggers portray. It definitely works and will drive traffic, but it takes a little bit of effort to get the ball rolling.
Pinning is exponential and you need to put in the work, but once you start seeing other people repinning your content to their boards it’s the best feeling in the world.
Starting a blog was the best thing that I ever did for myself, being able to reach so many more people with my content is what it’s all about. Without Pinterest and Tailwind, I would be flat in the water. Take advantage of Tailwind’s free offer and use that free $15 dollar trial to your advantage. Their platform and support will give your blog the extra push it needs.

Great insight! Thanks for sharing!
I’m glad that you enjoyed it! Let me know if you run into any questions. I’m happy to help.
There are lots of great tips here. Thank you for sharing your advice. I have subscribed, have responded to most of the requests and will try to apply this advice. I’m brand new to Tailwind and am trying to learn more about Pinterest marketing. I have followed you on Pinterest but couldn’t seem to find you to message you on Pinterest in order to request to join the group board. Anyway, thanks again.
Thanks Susan! I hope that the tips are still working for you.
Yes!! Such great tips! Thank you!
Absolutely! So glad that you enjoyed them. Thanks for stopping in and commenting.
I love how you went into such depth with these Pinterest strategies! I definitely plan on using these tips (and will pin!)
Thanks so much Mia, I really appreciate that. I’m excited you learned some new things to apply, can’t wait to see your results. Thanks so much for stopping in.
Some pretty solid advice. Though I hate how it seems like I spend more time on social media than I do actually writing, and pinterest is becoming another time vortex.
Oh I agree totally. I can literally schedule 50 pins at a time with Tailwind and that really does come in handy for time saving. I would say if you are going to spend time on one thing, the most important is sharing other people’s content. Sounds counterintuitive, but the more eyes on your profile, the more potential for followers. Thanks so much for stopping in I appreciate the comment.
If it helps, most of your time should be spent on promoting your posts anyway. You can write forever but if no one knows its there, you’ll just have a lovely collection of articles!
Great point! Promoting really is the name of the game. Thanks for the comment and stopping in.
Great tips, thanks for sharing! 🙂
Absolutely, I’m glad you found them helpful. Thanks for the comment.
Can’t wait to try these tips.
I’m excited for you to try them too. Please let me know if you ever have questions. I’m happy to help. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate you stopping in.
Thanks for the helpful tips! Pinterest is one of the only social media platforms that I’m a bit unsure about, but this is a great source of information.
Absolutely! I’m glad that you enjoyed the tips. Definitely try pinning to some group boards as an immediate source of gratification. I appreciate you commenting.
This was super helpful- recently I went through and change the “alt text” pin descriptions and I’ve really started to see my traffic increase. Thank you for this really inclusive guide!
Oh glad to hear it! Isn’t alt text amazing? It’s like you get the opportunity to write your own advertisement every time. Definitely more people need to take advantage. I’m glad you found the guide useful. There’s so many little tweaks we can make for success! Thanks for stopping in and commenting.
Hello! This was extremely helpful! Would you mind educating me more on Tailwind Tribes? One of my August goals was to join 3 tailwind tribes 😀
Absolutely, once you add the tailwind browser extension it’s really simply to add to tribes. In the same area where you are able to schedule the pin there is also a little button to ‘add to tribes’ (You can see it in the post under the ‘Utilize Alt Descriptions Every time’ section). This will pull up a popup of all the tribes you are a member of. You just click the box that indicates which tribes you would like to add the pin to. Tribes, like group boards all have owners / moderators so just stay within their guidelines and you’re set. Feel free to message me on the tribe board too 🙂 I’m glad you found this helpful, much luck on joining other tribes. I appreciate the comment.
Insightful tips! Thanks so much for sharing. I was wondering if you had any information on Tailwind tribes. I’m a bit confused. I know I made it one of my goals to find out more information and join 3 tribes! Thank you
Thank you for sharing these tips! I am in the process of perfecting my Pinterest game and I am finally starting to see some results after MONTHS of trying to figure it out!
Oh that’s fantastic! Congratulations on seeing the results. What do you think made the biggest difference? I appreciate you stopping in and commenting. I’ll go look for you on pinterest too.
Such a great post and explained so well. Thank you for this I’m going to work on my Pinterest straight away!
Amazing Karen! Thank you for taking the time to comment I really appreciate that. Please let me know if you run into any questions. I’m more than happy to help.
I really appreciate this article! The title was right, it really is tips that I haven’t heard before! Quick question~how do I repin my own pins if I use a business account? The only option seems to be “Promote” now. Thanks again for sharing this article with us all!
~Hannah from Enchased Thought
I’m so glad that the title was true and you found the suggestions helpful. For repinning your own pin, when you go to the URL for your source page: “https://www.pinterest.com/source/YOUR URL”, physically click the pin that you want to repin. Once the pin is open it will give you the option to save it to a new board and will keep your repin number. You’re 100% correct hovering over the pin when you’re on the main source page only gives you the promote option. Thanks for pointing that out. Let me know if you have anyother questions, I am more than happy to help. I appreciate the support and you commenting.
Interesting ideas! Love it!!
Thanks so much! I’m glad that you enjoyed. Thank you for the comment.
This is great information! I’m still so new with Pinterest and definitely want to get some traffic to my page from it!
Thanks so much Mallory, I appreciate you commenting. Just found you on Pinterest followed and added you to the group board. Happy to ever help with anything.

Hi Samantha,
In only 2 months, I’ve started noticing my traffic start to grow. It’s nothing really to brag about yet and you’re right, it does take time to get the ball rolling.
Glad to hear you say that it takes time to build up the momentum. Just like anything else, it just takes consistency to see your hard work pay off.
Have a great day 🙂
Susan
Oh that’s wonderful! 2 months is great start. I always try to tell people how important it is to be patient so that you don’t defeat yourself. I will look for you on pinterest. Thanks so much for stopping in and commenting.
Finally a helpful article on Pinterest that isn’t trying to sell something. Thank you 🙂
You’re welcome Emily! I’m so happy that you enjoyed it and actually found it helpful. I am more than happy to help with any questions you might have too. I am going to go find you on pinterest right now. Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it.
Loved the sourcing trick! Thanks for the tips! 🙂 I’m trying to get the most traffic to my blog through Pinterest, because that is where I get most of my ideas from. Haven’t been extremely successful yet, but am looking forward to implementing some of these strategies!
Oh so glad you found the sourcing trick useful! Use it to find your most popular pins and pin those to group boards. That should definitely help. Thanks for stopping in and commenting. Can’t wait to check your site out too.
Lots of great tips! My problem is I have no idea how to see how many times something has been pinned as I’m going down my feed. I can a see a pin rate when I search for something, does this mean I always have to search for pins to find the best ones?
I’ve noticed that recently too. It seems pinterest isn’t putting the repin numbers in the main feed. Personally I do a combination of those pins, mixed with high repins. If you go to a person, board or search it will show the repin number. Indeed more of a pain, but I really do find it worth it. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment. I appreciate it. Let me know if there’s anyway I can help in the future.
Thank you so much for responding, I’m glad I’m not the only one have this issue. It would be nice to be able to see it on the feed as I love to scroll on my lunch and find new ideas. For now I will explore manually and hope they change it! Thank you for your help.
I hope that your pinning is going well! Let me know if you ran into any other questions I can help with.
Funnily enough, as I began searching for new pins today all the repin numbers seem to be gone… I’m not sure if this is just me but when I go through individual boards to look for pins they also have no repin rates 🙈
You are right! Pinterest just changed something. It’s definitely affecting my traffic, hopefully you are having better luck. I hope they put it back soon. >.< Frustrating!
Hi there! I loved the post and am eager to give these tips a try. I did try to do the source/yoururl thing you mentioned and it came back saying there’s nothing found. I know I have items from my site repinned. Any idea why it may not work? Thanks so so much!! In case it helps you asses, the site is simplyoneden.com thanks!
Hi Jenn! Not sure why it didn’t work for your try this : ” https://www.pinterest.com/source/simplyoneden.com/ ” I was able to find your pins. Thanks for the question, good luck!
Thanks for taking the time to reach out! It says Bosrd Not Found when I tried that 🤔
I think Pinterest is doing something. Nothing seems to be working as it should. Did the source page show up for you?
No it never showed up. Thanks for checking in! I’ll keep trying to see if there’s another way. Thanks!
Pinterest seems to be messing with everything. It’s making me a little nuts (>.<) I just want them to put the repin numbers back.
Thanks for this post, it’s given me lots to think about and raised a few questions too! I’m still trying to get my head around Pinterest and fix all the mistakes I made when I started. I did it all wrong in the beginning – I uploaded a ton of pins, descriptions and alt text missing on a lot of them, wrong size images – you name it, I did it! Now I’m not sure what you mean by source pin and repin – what’s the difference?
Hey Wendy! My apologies about the delay. The source pin would be the pin directly from the website, essentially the first pin. Repin numbers are harder to see now with the recent pinterest changes. Which are driving everyone crazy! I wouldn’t worry about fixing so much now as pinning correctly for the future. You can always go back and delete later. Thanks for stopping in and for the comment.
PinPinterest com is a scheduling and marketing tool for pinterest that is free to use and runs on the cloud. It is mobile optimised and has Pin Scheduler and Speed control options.
The best feature of PinPinterest is its sophisticated algorithms running in the background, which detect pins relevant to my business and pin them on my account. Also, it makes sure my account does not get banned by running at a safe-speed.
I just love PinPinterest for my Pinterest account 🙂
So true Monica! It’s great that the more you use pinterest, the more it gets to know you. Thanks for stopping in and commenting.
hi samantha, I am happy to finally find some great tips. Thank you so much for sharing, i will definitely be putting them to use.
Definitely! I’m so glad that you enjoyed them. If you ever have follow up questions, I’m more than happy to help too. Happy pinning!
Hi Samantha, These are such useful tips! Thank you very much for sharing them. So glad to have found your site!
Thanks so much Joanne! I appreciate the kind words and I’m glad you found the site too :). I will definitely be checking out yours.
Just saw this article – really good by the way. So, if our Source/Your url does not show anything, how could that be? I use Analytics and it is showing strong activity as well as getting Alerts when my pins are shared or saved. What am I doing wrong? Must be something, my Pinterest following is stalled terrible.
Hey Jai, sorry for the delay. Have you tried this URL : https://www.pinterest.com/source/jaicommunity.com/ I’m showing activity for your blog there 🙂 Hope that helps. Thanks for reading.
This was so helpful!! Definitely more so than a ton of Pinterest posts I have read! I am going to start being more careful about the alt description for sure and start following people! Thanks!
Absolutely! So glad that you found it helpful. I am going to find you on pinterest. Thank you so much for the comment and for stopping in.

Just joined Tailwind and already getting more traffic to a few of my blogs! Thank you for this in depth article 🙂
I am so glad you found it helpful. Thanks for commenting.
Whoa! So many awesome tips. Love list posts! I think another idea is that we often think, “I’ll create and share what I’ve made only if I have a big following,” but sometimes you have to just put it out there and be willing for no one to see it, because you need to show up with content first. People can’t see it and love it unless it’s out there!
Thanks so much lady! I hope that your blogging journey has been great.
This was a fantastic post! Thank you for sharing! I would love any feedback you have on my site!
Thanks Kaitlin! I really appreciate it. Your site looks great, the only thing I would suggest is something below your header. The posts look great!
Thank you so much for these tips! The one referencing the Source URL especially helpful. I have been trying to find a way to see all of my pins in one place and had no idea how to until now! Also- I saw another comment stating that they couldn’t be found. I got the same error when I did it from my phone’s browser. When I did it from my laptop it worked great!
Oh thanks Jennifer! I appreciate the tip and so glad you found the tips helpful.
Only just found your super blog. I’ve been really struggling with Pinterest, so your post has really helped. Thank you for sharing I’ve got got a lot of work to do 🥰
I am so glad to hear the Briar! Let me know if i can help in anyway.
